A HD version would be nice. Can this be preserved, it was released on DVD and not on BD.

Even if I think it could detract something from the original intent of the film, this could still be an interesting alternate edit to have in HD.

I've never seen the chronological edit, however I think the chronological edit is important for fans because the film hinges on the B&W scenes (the earlier scenes in the chronological edit). Seeing the B&W scenes chronologically allows fans to better analyze the film, because the B&W scenes are unreliable.

Was this on early DVDs releases? I forgot. Maybe a Pal version could be blended with the NTSC version.

The Japanese Blu-Ray already lets you watch the movie chronologically. Not that expensive either.

Seamless branching? This would need to be the exact same cut as it was on DVD.

Russian people have done the HD chrono edit already. The same release also swapped the awful, blurry b & w picture from the remaster with the pristine clear b & w picture from the old Blu-ray, so you get the best of both world. Only downside you have to deal with about 25 russian dubs in addition to original language. Nonetheless good to check out on the usual ru site.
I also learned there is a spanish, 24fps blu ray which has 2.0 original Dolby Surround track in PCM. Anyone have this?

@deblock:
The Japanese Blu-Ray release apparently used the same transfer as the original US Blu-ray with the difference of AVC vs. MPEG-2. Technically the Japanese thus might be even slightly superior but from a collector's "irrational" point of view I somehow still prefer the first US one with the way better cover. While quite some reviewers seem to prefer the newer master, for me it's awfully contrast-boosted plus the way less resolved b/w-scenes - director approved or not, it just doesn't look right to me. Would be interesting to check out the audio part if it's the same mix or not. Haven't had a chance to verify this put yet but it's something to consider. |
