If I have time and you think it’s worth it, maybe I can cap them both.

Good news, PDB! Curse of Frankenstein is a brand new transfer. It's advertised as new restoration, 100% recommend you capping.

Hoping for a WB Archive BD release soon...

Definitely worth preserving while available for October! The flesh tones aren't broken anymore, which is a big improvement.

Oh, damn! Nice!

Thanks for checking, TAF. I was wondering what happened to that Warner remaster and thought this might be it. Glad to have it confirmed.

Anytime! The master doesn't seem to be significantly sharper unfortunately, which I suspect is to do with the existing element all these transfers are coming from. Be interested to see if any vintage prints out there may be sharper if struck off a different IP/IN. Likely not but one can dream... Smile

Been rewatching some of these Hammer movies and trying to track down the best copies. Good to know it's available on HBOMax in decent quality. Saves me from purchasing the UK Blu-ray.

Just a heads up, but Warner Archive will be releasing a new restoration next month in a 2-Disc Special Edition Blu-ray!

The blu-ray will also include both aspect ratios.

Would one enjoy it if I were to capture and sync the US LaserDisc mono PCM for this? @The Aluminum Falcon

I haven't even watched the UK Blu-ray yet because I tried to flip through it and couldn't cope with how bad it looked, meaning I haven't really had a chance to properly assess whether the audio is any good. But my wild guess would be "probably not wonderful". Would I be more or less correct?

I'm not sure how Warner generally handles mono but their treatment of THE HUNGER was so atrocious I immediately bought 2 versions of it on LaserDisc after the film finished so I'm not that confident that the upcoming release will be amazing in that respect.

Hi pipefan! Didn't know The Hunger was so badly treated. I'll have to see your inevitable preservation of that.

Your guess is as good as mine as to how the audio will be! Was probably going to send Moshrom the UK BD track, the DVD track, and the new BD track to compare at some point. Also curious what the best audio is for Dracula or Brides of Dracula...

Well, merry Christmas, I suppose: ordered Brides of Dracula already and waiting to have purchases confirmed for Curse of Frankenstein and "Horror of Dracula". My wallet is screaming but I'm excited.

... I'm also getting another copy of The Hunger because my brain is broken but that'll mean I own 3 different LDs for it. (Which I think might be all of the ones that exist in the world.)
