[In progress] Prometheus - open matte

HBD? Also we can get BvS with the IMAX in good quality?

HDB = HDBits

Now I have only a theatrical version in IMAX Amazon. You need to buy the expanded one, but in it the IMAX scenes are longer.

I made a hybrid rip 1080p with extended IMAX scenes with Russian WEB DL and inserted them into Blu Ray

The release is already in the distribution on the "bluebird"

I finally rendered the lossless version of the first test script; it seems quite good, except for the fact that on the few shots with English writings (namely, title card, "Isle of Skye" and spaceship info), there are some remains of Russian writings and/or TV logo... I'll take care of this tomorrow, using another source - it *should* be relatively easy to fix this.

But I'm also thinking to use this further source to improve even more the overall quality of the whole film... I'll test this option as well, it should not be that hard, I hope!

Well, it WAS that hard, indeed! Big Grin

At the end, using three sources didn't pay, because two of them are lower quality, and the final result was worst than 1HD, which is the best one... so, I steer back and decided to use mostly two sources (1HD as main source, WEBdl to wipe out logo), and for the parts with English writings I end up to use 1HD as main source, and an SDTV for logo removal; the few parts where 1HD has missing frames and/or pop-ups are replaced using WEBdl.

I end up to use another HD source to replace the logo in the three shots with writings (title card, Skye Island, space crew), so final result for these shots are a lot better.

Logo is almost disappeared, still it's nearly visible in few shots here and there... should solve this problem!

Test clip (31s): https://fs03n1.sendspace.com/dl/eb949b2d...n_TEST.mkv

Here you can see traces of the TV logo; it occours because the main source (1HD) has different color grading, contrast, and overall resolution than any other open matte versions (WEBdl and other HDTV recordings), and it's impossible to match them perfectly; after countless tests, I end up with what can be called a good compromise; the logo is invisible in dark shots (that are many), and barely visible only in few shots; overall, the final video would have less than 4% untouched WEBdl (where the 1HD has big pop-ups, and in the dream scene, apart final credits), while the rest has higher resolution than WEBdl, and a color grading very similar to DVD (less greyish and lighter than BD/WEBdl).

Not perfect, I know, but still better than the source with that distracting logo (with the same quality), or the WEBdl version, without logo, but with lower quality, and the "greyish" color grading found on the BD.

Now, I'd like to know if you can "live with it" or not - because it will take about three days to encode it, and I should leave the PC alone to do that without errors; I would avoid to do that if there isn't a general consensus about this project!

PLEASE VOTE YOUR OPINION IN THE POLL!

UPDATE: I'm encoding the video in 6 parts, so I can check them and eventually apply a fix without waiting 2+ days.

So far, the first three parts are checked; apart one shot which contains a glitch, I replaced few seconds here and there where the logo was really noticeable; for the rest, the logo is almost always invisible, and only barely visible in an handful of frames, IF you know where and what to watch - really, I watched the movie with the eyes steadily pointed at the corner! Happy

If everything would go well, I'll finish in two days... wish me luck, I really need it!
