Poita's THX-1138 "as-is" 35mm scan?
#1
Here's a link to the thread I found this in: http://originaltrilogy.com/topic/THX-113...n/id/49918

Here's the quote: "Poita recently released a file containing the whole scan as-is, and I took this and made an English version."

Is this true? If so, where did Poita release this "whole scan as-is"? I'd be very interested in having that.

It would probably be best to ask in that thread

I was talking about this via private message on OT and as far as I know it's not something readily available. If my memory serves me right it was passed to the person who released a quick-and-dirty US version by combining the Italian scan (limited to 720p) with US laserdisc and blu ray inserts. The actual scan is not available publicly but the US version based on the Italian scan should be.
I imagined that that line you quoted would have been misleading.

Also this is as good a moment as any to tell newcomers that this THX preservation and restoration project started when I found the 35mm and Poita is still working on it. The US/ITA mix release was a temporary thing that was thought up to give something concrete to those who donated money to help us with the scan and restoration costs. In fact, if anyone is wanting to give a hand, Poita is still open to donation. I can't even imagine the costs he has been sustaining. Before asking for copies of this and that, if you haven't done it already, feel free to contribute to this great project.

So the project is still ongoing? Good to hear. What's the status, if I may ask?

I already heard that donations are welcome. I'm sadly on welfare and can't give much, but I am thinking about contributing a small sum next month (don't have much left this month).

Poita has the raw 4k scan and has been working on it for a while, and found new sources too to integrate credits, infographics and such. I'm not sure at what point he is exactly but I'm sure he'll get there eventually.
My "before asking this and that" wasn't referred to you but to anyone would read that quote without knowing the situation and jump on the "me too" wagon.
