[Released] Terminator 2 CDS mix
Just a quick question. Is the HD DVD/Blu Ray essentially the CDS but with a filter at 16kHz?

If that is true, it may actually be an improvement or at least a good alternate version. Not closer to the original I guess, but getting rid of the 16 kHz hum/fizz/whateveryoucallit is hardly a bad thing ... although the approach taken is not exactly subtle. Big Grin

After all, the reason the CDS is considered good here is that it's the original mix and not a remix. If the HD DVD / Blu Ray isn't a remix and merely has this technical fix in it, I don't think it's necessarily a big issue.

Also consider that this "frequency hole" may look a bit exaggerated due to the linear frequency diagram created. Though, the octaves in higher frequencies are spread across a wider frequency range so it's arguable that not much is lost "audibly" while the noises are gone.

Just a different perspective.

I would. The difference in the spectograms goes beyond the obvious processing at ~16kHz: look at the peaks.  If others favor the BD audio and want to make their own syncs, that's great, but to me the best choice is still the track that's had little or no filtering and therefore offers the best fidelity.

Quote:Are you motivated to work on a resync to both the old master (Japanese Blu-ray/Team Blu, Skynet, 2015) and the remaster (2D and 3D). They would be essentially the same, except for a starting delay for each and an additional 4-frame delay in one more spot for the remaster.

Yes to the old master, but I wouldn't say that I am motivated to sync to the new one, but if people want this enough, we might come to some arrangement.  Funnily enough, the only reason that I might pick up the remaster is that the unrestored sections (such as the alternate ending, which I quite like) might be an improvement on previous releases.

It's true that the BD has peaks over 21kHz, but look at height of the peaks across the spectogram as a whole. The JP DVD looks healthier (less manipulated) overall (at least to me).

Would someone send me the BD and DVD DTS tracks? I'd like to compare them too.

Still wait for the French and US first release BD to arrive...

Upcoming weekend, I am home, and then I will give both tracks (JP DVD and FR BD/HD-DVD) a listen on my surround system...

Hope my neighbor is not at home the weekend... Very thin wall between my living room, and her bedroom...

For anyone trying to sync this mix with the new 4k theatrical remaster, adding a delay of 34418 ms synced up with my copy.

In that case, you either have the first 18 minutes in sync and the rest 4-frames out of sync, or you made it half and half and have the entire movie out of sync by 2 frames (harder to notice) one part to soon, the other too late.
