Silence of the Lambs gets a 4K Remaster by Criterion
#1
Just thought you might wanna know.

4K remaster. Will have 2.0 Dolby Surround track and an alternate 5.1 track, both DTS-HD MA.

A shit ton of deleted scenes too apparently (over 20 minutes!), that could make for a nice extended edition.

And some other extras.

I know what I'll be getting in February, heh, along with Jethro Tull's Heavy Horses New Shoes edition. Christmas comes 2 months later for me this time around. Smile

I've read about that on Bluray.com a while back and I'm interested to see if it will match my recent 35mm screening.

There is a 35mm on ebay, I grabbed the screens for myself, might do for a basic 35mm regrade.

Here it is: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-THE-SILENC...SwP4FaL03I

Does it look the way you remember it?

Pretty much, I'd say. Not the scenes I have in mind though. After my screening I compared with the current Blu-ray, which is wrong by the way. The scene I remember the most is the airfield one where the senator (?) meets Hannibal. A very warm scene. So much orange in there.

If we're lucky and they use the same relative color timing (from scene to scene) a blanket LUT using those screens could make the others fall in place. One can always hope. Big Grin

The source I've seen (probably Blu Ray) did always look kind of sterile to me.

dont know if you are interested, but the new remaster of this was actually done by the BFI who gave the new version to Criterion

So the BFI version is the good one? Does it have all those extras too?

Edit: I am stupid.

The old Criterion is far superior to the far too cold and untimed looking MGM editions. So I'm quite happy it's coming back but I've got the LD in case they oversrcub the audio as is their wont.
