Thanks for the example MrBrown and thanks for the advice spoRv and alex.

I did a little work, tweaked the red highs (particularly in the skin tones), downed the green highs, balanced the shadows to black, added some luma from the original but kept the dynamic (Ie contrast-y and pushed highs) look of the trailer and changed a bit of the saturation.

Given the pics Brown pointed too, the AB has some EE, which I tried using De_halo to limited results. It is also somewhat de-grained so I add added light grain back particularly in the blues.

Still trying to make it look like the trailer(s) but a little more crowd pleasing. For better or worse I'm done unless I can get a better BD master to use. I'd love to get the true mono soundtrack, maybe from a LD, if anyone has it.

It's 192kb/s dual mono AC-3

The UK Arrow is essentially the same as the US Anchor Bay but with slightly less digital clean up. The Australian disc is supposed to be the same as the Arrow.

Wow, this is a really cool project, I hope you see it to completion. Dawn of the Dead has always bugged me with the super warm grading, so it's awesome to see this. The zombie makeup definitely isn't the best, but it appears much more effective in your grading (especially that shot of zombie Stephen).

Just checked the Argento cut full frame BD; sadly only the center letterbox "slice" is restored, but I think this could still be improved - zoom a bit the inage to let both top and bottom "touch" the outer borders (cropping out residual black borders), and zoom more few shots that have larger borders, "reconstruct" rounded corners with inpainting (many shots are static), as well as repeated slice top or bottom on the first/last frame of any shot...

Just an idea!

Thanks spoRv. I wouldn't be against using the Italian but sadly I only have this copy at the moment but if I ever got it I'd be more then willing to revisit.

Here is a final look at the regrade, I'm doing a render (well this is the fourth render) right now.
