It's possible I'm wrong, but I did a quick few comparisons a few weeks ago between the Equilibrium US and CA and they both seem identical (Open Matte). I have both at hand, so I might look again some day.

When ARs are scaled "down" (e.g. from 2.39:1 to 1.78:1) in the transition from theatrical to home media, does that innately mean that the releases are cropped? Or are they keeping open mattes by default? What about vice versa? Do "broadened" ARs (e.g. 1.37:1 to 1.78:1) mean that the tops and bottoms of frames everywhere are getting snipped?

The Madman AU/NZ release of 'Guns Akimbo' is in 1.78:1 instead of 2.39:1. Some scenes have been recomposed, others are a straight crop.
