UHD BD to BD?

Ended up doing an ultrafast CQ full encode of Returns using the Mummy settings but am not convinced. Despite their been a couple of bright scenes, the majority of the film is quite dark and think I prefer my original default setting very slow 2 pass full encode in those cases, they appear a little to dark in the new encode. Look forward to your observations Beber in regards to Cont and Bright. Maybe somewhere between.

I don't have The Mummy Returns yet. I suppose it's a matter of taste as, in the example above, I like the darker one. I'm seeing it on the PC screen I have at work right now on my lunch break, though. It's also a matter of what the mood of the scene is, I guess.

US Blu-ray / Italian Blu-ray / RipBot conversion (hue=0,sat=1.05,bright=0,cont=1.1)




Oddly, the names in the opening credits aren't all white. The first few are, but then they keep a bit of yellow in them. That's part of the reason I went up to 1.1 in contrast, hoping to get them whiter, but nope.

They Live, one of my favorite films (along with most of Carpenter's output). Have the remastered SC bluray which is already very good.

The Cont looks a little bit much where as the Sat could do with a little bit more. Didn't notice that greenish tibt on the remastered bluray. Have you compared both the new bluray and uhd, is there an improvement with the ripbot conversion over the standard bluray.

Again very interested in your thoughts.

No yellow credit but think I noticed it for a split second at the beginning of a previous credit before it flickers back to white.

I didn't even realize the Blu-ray had been remastered, too! I guess I should go even higher in contrast to obtain that same look.

Supposedly the UHD exhibits compression artifacts in a couple of scenes which the DVD does not have, not as bad as The Fog UHD (where amongst others the cross scene is almost VCD bad) and again the DVD does not have.

Remastered Blu-ray / My Ripbot conversion








This one name is not a clear white as the others on the new Blu-ray.

But I guess the new Blu-ray is good enough. It's more contrasty as we can see on the highlight on the Black guy's skull. There's also more red on the Blu-ray. Maybe adding a couple points in the hue department would compensate for it in another Ripbot conversion attempt, but is it needed with a Blu-ray that seems to look just fine as is? Both are true 24p by the way. Not 23.976, but 24.000 fps.

Damn! I didn't remember the Blu-ray looking this dark! Have I done something wrong taking those pics directly from the Blu-ray drive on my PC. Would it look brighter if I had made a rip of it? No, right? That doesn't make any sense, does it? Framing and/or geometry is also different. I like the look of that conversion, anyway.
