Actually, I do not like a lot reddit - think about a certain community left it, and started (again) as a "normal" forum...

Indeed, I'm thinking about using a brand-new-old kind of forum script; in particular:

• EsoTalk (that I have used briefly for a website that has never been published) that is lightweight and really nice, even if its website is down - but you can have an idea of how it works here: https://forum.xojo.com

Like their "lightness" - still, dunno how one of them could work with, say, 5000+ titles (threads)?
