1st Gen Star Trek II DVD

Wow this does look really good. Is there any reason to pick up the original DVDs for all six along with the SE discs? I just went the LD route after being confronted by the awful BDs.

The LDs for all six are very good for LD but would have been better if there had been later masters. I had thought the original run of DVds were just Ld ports but they may have originally been designed for remastered LDs judging by this DVD.
That said the letterboxed TMP LD is a stunner of a disc and one of my go to reference titles for picture and sound on the format. (Despite the overall lack of color in the film etc.)

Apart from II, I can comment in detail only on VI, which does look like a port of the LD. It's the only DVD that has the extended (sometimes called "home video") cut, as opposed to the Collector's Edition (sometimes called the "Directors Cut"), which might or might not be a reason for you to pick up the disc. The picture quality is higher on the CE, but the previous DVD doesn't look bad. All pre-BD DVDs of the film appear to be based on the same elements: they have the original color-timing and sport the opened-up AR.

A follow up to this. Does anymore have the 1st gen DVD of ST6? The single disc pre-CE DVD.

There seen to be plenty of inexpensive copies on Ebay. Many still factory sealed. Too bad it wasn't 16:9 encoded.

Perhaps this is too late of a reply, but I have a first gen DVD of ST6 pre-CE. Can I be of assistance?
