It fell off from that a bit. I had to add 1 frame to get something in sync (long story). So there is one additional black frame at the beginning when compared to the 3D BD.

That's it? So a simple initial delay of +42 ms applied to a foreign dub extracted from the 3D Blu-ray will do?

We were waiting on Chewie to confirm that, I added a +42ms delay and the sound still seemed to me to be very slightly ahead of the video. Has Chewie confirmed yet what the delay should be, PDB, or if the +42ms is definitely correct.

I have to say this opened up AR is a much better viewing experience than the scope crop!
Id of swore it was framed for this ratio had Tony Scott not had such tight compositions on later films.

Ive not seen the 3D version / new transfer so I'm not familiar with its look / color timing.
From the screenshots earlier in the thread I much prefer PDB's color tweaks, It felt like a 35mm presentation at times to be honest.
The grain is pretty heavy in some scenes, not that it's a criticism or anything just an observation.
Have you added anymore to cover some of the compression artifacts?

I viewed with the LD audio option on my AV amp set to Pro Logic 2 and it also sounded great.
Again Im no expert on the various mixes this film is available in but this felt just right. The aerial combat scenes gave my sub a nice work over
Is anybody in possession of the LD AC3 captainsolo mentioned earlier in the thread?

Ive stopped it just before the 'Goose' scene, so I still have some way to go, but I would like to thank PDB and everybody involved in putting this project together.
This is my go to version of the film.

The delay value that I calculated was one that should sync the 2008 US BD (and 2009 EU/UK BD) to the 3D BD, which is relevant when delaying the PCM so it syncs to the latter instead of the former.  When I watched PDB's release, I didn't notice any sync problems with the PCM.  Did anyone else?  I'll double-check when I return home this weekend.

I've made no comments about syncing the 3D BD to the WEB-DL: it was X5gb who said that they were in sync.  I don't recall ever having a WEB-DL of this film, so I can neither confirm nor deny that they are in sync.  If what PDB says is true and there is one additional frame at the beginning of his release, then a delay of 42ms should work.

I'm not even sure that I kept the 3D BD.  If I did, I'll try to check it against this release when I have a minute.

EDIT: The only other factor that might come into play is the way in which tracks from the 3D BD are demuxed. Try demuxing them with eac3to and simultaneously adding the delay of 42ms.

Anyway, sorry X5gb, I didn't mean to imply this was the end of the project. I do want more soundtracks (DTS, LD AC-3) but I thought I'd release this as is for now and do an update later.

Thanks CSchmidlapp, very nice of you to say. The grain has been manipulated by me. That's a product of trying to separate the compression artifacts from the grain. But what you have seen with the grain varying greatly is in the original file and even partially in the older highly compressed copy I had. The grain is very heavy inside the operational room on the carrier, the carrier scenes, aerial shots, dark interiors, etc and lighter in outdoor scenes, "drama" scenes, etc.

The Web-DL is much grainer than the old BD which has been DNR'd and is probably closer to what an 80s era Super 35 production would look like.

And yes I would love to add the LD AC-3...

With all of that in mind, I think this is the end of this iteration, if anyone else wants a copy please PM me, otherwise I'm going to delete it for space.

Yea, remember having that LD, nice gatefold sleeve, and the AC-3 was pretty special on it. Would also love to have it if anyone can capture it.

I have the AC-3 LD, watched it last night, great mix. I will capture it once I've cleared the backlog
