So I was thinking, is an IMAX version possible, using the original DVD?

That would mean getting the open matte 4/3 for most of the shots, and using your version in the places where the 4/3 is cropped?

As already discussed earlier, the flying scenes alone would benefit from using the 4/3 dvd with the web-dl/bluray overlaid using auto overlay but would need the expertise of someone like spoRv or random.next to implement this. The other scenes would not benefit as it is mostly useless head room and cropped in the sides.

It doesn't really matter, because the whole point of IMAX is not to expose the whole frame, but make some creative choices.

Like the James Cameron 4/3 versions they are often cropped on the sides.

I was thinking, the talking scenes in 4/3, and the action scenes in 16/9.

But its the flying scenes (action) which would benefit most from 4/3 ratio dvd as they are still a little tight in the 16/9. Jerryshadoe was intending to do a project making use of the 4:3 flying scenes but seems to have gone quiet recently. The whole point of IMAX is to open the action scenes not the talking scenes as per the majority of ratio switching movies including the MI and Batman movies.

Do you have the 4/3 ratio dvd, Stamper.

Yes I ordered it, just received it!

So that's an interesting thought... action scenes in 4/3, talking scenes in widescreen!

I need to check the two versions out!

Did you get the US NTSC fullscreen Collector's Edition or the original release EU Pal flipper disc. The NTSC is the superior version in this case. Jerryshadoe mentioned there were issues with the Pal transfer.

I have them both!

That would make an interesting hybrid, as we can then sync all those soundtracks

NTSC
English Dolby Digital 5.1
English Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround
French Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround

PAL
English Dolby Digital 5.1
French Dolby Digital 5.1
German Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround
Italian Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround
Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround

I have the French collector R2 PAL DVD with French dts track including the narration on the opening text, unlike the Blu-ray track.
