Well after losing this project on a HDD, I was able to piece it back together and rebuild the 3 cuts built from the WOWOW. Everything seemed fine until in testing I found this shot(s)



has the same screwed up highlights (the green in the muzzle flash). I think I missed it in the new copies I made. So have to go back and fix that on the SE and TV. So still plugging away.

Sorry to hear you have to start over, PDB. I can't count the number of times I've had to redo an hour or more of work after Adobe Illustrator crashes (I have ADHD and when I get hyperfocused I forget to save) and somehow it ends up turning out better than it was. I don't know what it is, but it's like starting fresh makes you see things you didn't see the first time. It doesn't make the redo any less of a chore, but at least there's that silver lining to hang onto...

My wife has never seen Aliens, so I'm very excited to think her first time seeing it this October will hopefully be your WOWOW cut!

Turn out that the green edging is present on not only the WOWOW but the old 99 DVD and all the older HDTV broadcasts (aka all pre-BD scans). So, it's not the Japanese encoder fault but something baked into the master. I tweaked the highlights but left the green in. To fix it I would have to use the BD and that too different looking to match well. I'm re-enocding the TV and SE now.

Great pics but some context would be helpful. Did you attend this screening and are you able to confirm that the colours in the pictures are reasonably accurate to how they appeared projected?

Some 70mm frames for you all. Think these are from the same source as above. Got these from a facebook group that i'm a member of. FYI the screening was a private 70mm screening.

Weird those frames are about 1.66:1

SporV's FC v2 seems to be closest to those colours. It's similarly cyan without the blanket green cast of the BD.
