I can't get over what an amateur and gimmicky thing to do that is. It sounds like an effect that someone might add for a commercial or something.

There is definitely noise reduction on the UHD, you can even see the darker lines throughout where they tried to mask out frequencies. The interesting thing is the large spikes on the UHD that stick out from the rest of the movie. I've seen this kind of thing before on remixes and always leaves me scratching my head how it ended up that way. This time though I think the answer is actually pretty obvious after checking out the spots: they laid in a new ringing sound on top of the mix to make the "shining" sound more intense when something weird is going on. Audio from LaserDisc is 1411Kbps 44000Hz not 1536Kbs 48000Hz

Is there somewhere online that explains how to play audio like the mono file while watching the 4k disc?
I'm not gonna hurt ya

Well, as far as I know, the only way you could play the movie with the mono audio mixed in via disc is to mix the two and then burn it onto a new UHD disc for personal use? Otherwise, I suppose most people just ripped the 4K disc and then play it on their computer as a remuxed MKV file.

I don't think anyone is burning UHDs. It's much simpler to drop the MKV on a thumbstick and plug into your TV or UHD player.

Dumb question, can such files be played on plain old HD sets?
