spoRv, after viewing the 35mm scan, are you still interested in pursuing this project?
My view, after seeing how different a 35mm print looks, is that trying to make a home release look exactly like a 35mm print would not be easy nor do I think it would be desirable (with faded colours, black crush, blown-out whites etc.).
What I would love to see is a version that preserves the detail and saturation of the home releases but retains the 'spirit' of the 35mm print with darker night scenes and the same warm brown colour tone. In my opinion this is how a studio would handle the release if it was "done right" by trying to stay as close as possible to the look of the original film while retaining the detail present in the scan of the negative that is lost in the print.
I still believe the daytime scenes of the 3DBD represent a genuine (if imperfect) attempt to present a more saturated version of the theatrical colours. The night scenes on the 3DBD look dreadful though. Without the blue tint, the scene where Nedry meets the Dilophosaurus is obviously shot on a sound stage.
So is there still interest in creating a 'definitive' BD version of JP??

I still think it's a good idea.

Never gave up with this project, but only put apart - as many others... so, I thought was time to resurrect this old thread, due to new color regrading technique and a bit of more knoledge.
Source: Canal+ HDTV open matte (with logo) as base, WOWOW HDTV 1.85:1 as main video overlaid to the previous
Color references: film scan open matte, 3D HDTV 1.85:1 (top/bottom) cropped and upscaled to fullscreen
Intermediate chroma: regraded source as film, regraded source as 3D
Intermediate luma: regraded source as film, regraded source as 3D, untouched source
Final chroma: the two intermediate chroma merge
Final luma: the three intermediate luma median
Note: chose to add also the source as luma, because in dark scenes final result using only film and 3D lead to too dark image, while using a median of the three, dark scenes are brightened a bit, while bright scenes have improved contrast; also, black crush and white clipping found on film are greatly reduced, if not deleted.
Test comparison, from top left:
film, regraded source -> film,
3D, regraded source -> 3D,
untouched source, final

Any chance you could send me the LUT for this one, so I could apply it to my 3D Blu-ray at some point in the future by doing this for each individual eye? Because I was hoping to do so in the hopes that I might use the resulting timing for the 3D recreation of the original theatrical trailer. In any case, this looks excellent.
