That's another option I thought... but you must admit that the hard/soft matte feature is really interesting!

It's a very cool feature. I have just managed to watch your test clip on my htpc using VLC. It's looking good but I assume because this is just a test it is not spot on at the join. I noticed in the bottom left corner you can see the line splice between both 1.85:1 Wowow and Canal+. I take it both still need to be properly matched upto each other in colour, brightness etc, or is that not the case.

Yes, it's a quick-n-dirt test, just to give the ideas that is possible to use Canal+ for the top and bottom slices, and to show the hard matte technique.

Of course, if after further testings the quality will not arise, it will always be possible to do as you suggested; an open matte version - with hard matte option - using Canal+ (delogo) and another 1.85:1 using WOWOW; third option, one version with two video streams!

As you confirmed, it's just a quick-n-dirt test, so I'm sure it will look a lot better when done properly.
I personally think both versions should use the Wowow anyway so hope you can get it right.

This project is not forgotten! Big Grin

But, because, celebrating the new Jurassic World, one of our Italian channels decided to broadcast all the three (at this point) prequels, in HD, I've decided to grab them, to see if they have "something more" than BD - hardly, I think, but it *may* happen!

Here's hoping 2 and 3 look better then the BD.

Recording another movie, I noted the spot for JP 1+2+3 was there... don't expect high quality - bitrate is around 5/6mbps - but as you could notice, color grading is different... dunno if it's *right*, or more right than the WOWOW (which is pretty close to SKY and 2D BD)... well, here you are comparisons for five frames:

Yeah that's not that good, seems to bright as well. Is there even a WOWOW of 2 and 3?

There is a Wowow of 2 (one with subs throughout and one with only headers) and 3 (one with subs, which there is a version which has been overlayed, and one with only the headers) but from what I remember the Blurays have both beat especially 2. There is also a Canal+ and Sky of 2 and a Sky of 3, again the Bluray,s have them beat in every area from what I remember. It is only 1 with its overuse of EE, zoomboxed and different color-timing that lets the trilogy Blurays down.
Sorry to say it spoRv, but the Italian print of 1 is not good, way too bright and washed out along with the big logo.

Yep, I noted the quality is pretty bad... but brightness could be lowered, and then *maybe* color grading *could* be useful... the more (sources) the better! Wink
