The JPN disc that got released first got terrible reviews. Missing footage as well i think
The WAC disc is highly recommended. got mine sitting here

This has long be on my list of movies to catch up with... sounds like it's a bit of a disappointment.
It is not often remakes surpass the original.

The WAC Blu is a must as they had to essentially do a full blown restoration process. The elements in question aren't the greatest so it was apparently searching for better ones that caused the long delay for a BD.
I'm in the minority but I really like this classic and vastly prefer it to the cold, gross out emotionless Carpenter remake. The only thing the 1982 film has is more of the source material story and that part is more greatly fleshed out. For what this film was in the 50's it couldn't do that and it is a classic bedrock of 50's and all later SF films to come.
Damn Fool Idealistic Crusader
