Does anyone have the US DVD of the Directors Cut? From what I can see this was only released in the UK and US. The UK DVD (which I have) has no extra subs but the US DVD has French and Spanish subs.

Any color correction expects out there?

Been playing around with Dr Dre all day and I'm beginning to think grading this to the DVD is going to be impossible.

Untouched Blu:

DVD upscaled to 1080:

Dr Dre 50 and 0.50 result - tried lots of different combinations and nothing improves it:

As you can see the Essen on the right and everything on the shelves behind them looks wrong, the collar of the guy on the left is the wrong colour, the flyers above the guys hand are yellow instead of white, top left corner is yellow, skin tones are wrong.

I've tried three or four scenes so far and I'm getting these sort of problems on all of them. Beginning to think this isn't going to work.

Wow! That ESSEN bit in the untouched blu-ray image you can see the information is just gone. And in the DVD, yeah, the white boxy thing on the shelf above the "Pet Food" sign, and the other white things around it (pillar), as you said...Sad  In the BD it's all been sandblasted to yellow. I'm no expert, but my two cents is it's definitely not you and, yeah, don't throw more time at this particular attempt as it seems hopeless. Sad

One thing I might suggest is show this to Dr. Dre personally for his opinion; for such an extreme example he might well take a moment out to look, and confirm what seems obvious from your post, or present a solution the likes of which we mere mortals can't comprehend. Smile You likely know this, but he's active on OT.com currently (with Star Wars regrades at least).

Any improvements will help but the current HD master isn't very good IMO. I have a feeling given it's a Universal title, that Arrow in the future might put out a 4k remastered BD and possible UHD with both cuts.

Stumbled over this by accident: https://www.ebay.de/itm/143866169802

Might be an interesting reference?

WTF have they done to this movie!
I always remember it being drained of colour and high contrast.
Not like its been bathing in wee wee for 20 years!

Id give this one a miss good sir, really not worth your time.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, reluctantly I am going to leave this project and move on. From looking at the print found by TomArrow I can confirm that the DVD is the same and it's the blu that is way out for some unknown reason. Like SpaceBlackKnight suggests, all I hope is that one day someone else picks this up and does it justice.
