Editing Subtitles With Movie
#1
Hi all,

Is anyone aware of any software that can edit subtitles at the same time as the video? What I want is to take a movie with subtitles, "bind" the srt file to the movie somehow and then if I cut out bits, reorder scenes etc, every change is replicated in the subtitle track(s). So after the edit is finished, I still have correct subtitles.

Does such a program exist?

Thanks

I haven't used it, but it sounds as if trimsrt is what you are describing.  See the guide linked to in the first post of that thread. The idea is to edit out commercials, which is more or less the same thing.

Alternatively, you might be able to coax VapourSynth's Subtext into doing what you want.  But I haven't tried it for what you are describing.

Ah, trimsrt would have made an edit I just did mere hours ago (just before you posted this) a bit quicker than it was. Thank you for this, it'll be handy in future methinks!

I ended up just doing it in SubtitleEdit according to my AviSynth script notes (used the SMPTE timestamps from AviSynth frames and converted number of frames cut/added to duration, then added/removed time in SubtitleEdit from that point forward). In this case it wasn't too arduous at least, because there were only a few edit points (I think 4) but it would certainly be more annoying if scenes were reordered etc. as @alleycat describes.

Thanks I will take a look at trimsrt.

I came across this post https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/3591...tle-tracks and that has a way of doing it with MKVtoolnix but it isn't that accurate.

They also mention a program called Solveig and that seems to be able to do it https://www.solveigmm.com/en/howto/how-t...-splitter/. I'm in two minds about this though, initially it looked like one of those crappy programs like freemake, but it does have some good reviews and seems to be the most user friendly operation so far. I've just never heard of it before so I'm a bit dubious.

Getting an option working would be great, I have quite a few projects where I'm either inserting extra scenes into a blu ray rip, or cutting a blu ray rip to make it follow an alternate release etc - automatically re timing the subs in line with the edits - especially multiple languages would be really helpful.
