Why would they need to do that? Are you saying that they did so only on the Blu-ray's "US version", or both?

It's just a guess.  I have no idea if it's true.
I figure if they brought the U.K. cut to the U.S., they may have legally needed it to say "A LOU ADLER-MICHAEL WHITE PRODUCTION", but that wouldn't have been present on the U.K. print.
The easiest (stupidest) way to fix it would be to edit in the opening credits from an existing U.S. transfer.  It could explain the cropping being present only in the opening credits; they used a different source than the rest of the movie.

Worth mentioning there are two 35mm prints on ebay at the moment...

I feel getting a 35mm print is the only way we'll ever get to see the Time Warp flashback scene at the end tinted blue. We could color correct it on the BD but we need a reference first to know exactly where and how it looked. I still to this day never saw that part blue.

Rocky Horror is definitely one of those movies that I honestly wouldn't mind seeing a really rough grindhouse scan crop up since it would sort of help push the aesthetic the movie tried pushing for. I wouldn't be surprised either if there were a fair amount of missing blues that ends up showing up throughout the movie either.

Gotta be frank with you all though, the aforementioned prints look red judging from the images above. I don't know what sort of color info could be yielded from either of those two things if anyone did grab them.

Mild tangent, I wonder how Shock Treatment looks on a print back in the day; Would love to see a preservation of that.

As a follow up to my previous guess about the opening credits:
http://rockyhorror.com/participation/beh..._video.php
Quote:Not all of the footage from the film was readily available. "Many people don't realize this, but in the United States, the opening producer credits read 'A Lou Adler/Michael White Production'. Outside of the U.S., the credits read 'A Michael White/Lou Adler Production'. The original camera negative also omits 'Superheroes', so both of these key elements had to be tracked down for scanning." The film elements were then scanned at 4K (roughly 4,000 pixels across) resolution by Warner Bros. Motion Picture Imaging. Once the 4K scan was completed, the image files were downconverted to 2K resolution. The reason for scanning at 4K is that scanning at a higher resolution yields a higher quality image than simply scanning at 2K and working from there.

Yeah yeah, posting again. Finally sat down to watch the BD tonight and dear god the audio track blows.
Audio levels are all over, some of the sound is weird and echo-y and during "There's a Light" when Riff Raff sings from the window it's weirdly soft and as the camera pulls back it gets louder... none of this is true of the original VHS's stereo track.

Now that I've re-spliced the broken leader and wired my VCR to my PC I'm pondering sample rate and bit depth. Is 48kHz/16-bit okay? My sound chip is a alc662, and I think the best it can do is 96kHz/16-bit.

Around the 15th(?) anniversary, USA cable network's Night Flight actually showed Superheroes. I wonder where they got it from let alone how they got it scanned?

Recenty got my hands on "Super 8 Grindhouse" version someone made using the Blu Ray and some other sources. It was posted to the RHPS reddit before being taken down. Seeing the same fake film scratches/defects every few seconds got old really fast, but they did nail the beat up print on a really grungy projector look. The "mono" had too much echo and reverb at times, (no idea what they used for a source) but I give them an A for effort overall.

It's shame as the video is really good

Might as well record at the highest rate/depth you can. You can always resample it later.

Ended up doing 48kHz/16-bit. A quick side-by-side comparison and I think the issue is that since the source is mono, they aggressively took that single track and just spun it around the speakers without really expanding the soundfield much. It's fairly strange how it was done.

I have no idea when I'll have time to actually sync it. I might use the BD's superheroes downmixed, but I will check the CD to see if it has all the sounds and is a better mix.

If anyone wants the raw capture, let me know and I'll make it available.

Edit: So a brief history of my VHS. Yes, it's the 1990 15th anniversary tape that sold for $90. I found it in the early 90's at a store that bought and resold liquidated stock from places. In the case of the tape, it was stock from a video store that burned down. It was dirt cheap and completely undamaged. I'm pretty sure I have a couple black diamond Disney VHS from them as well.

Edit 2: Looking reviews of the earliest DVD release, I saw one reviewer say the 5.1 mix was pretty much just an extension of the old stereo mix with no noticeable difference.
Anyone know if this is true? If so, an old DVD might be a better source and easier to sync.

Edit 3: I'm seriously looking for any opinion about this. I might be crazy. I'm also curious if anyone cares about a sync of a lower numbered channel mixed track synced to the BD.
