[versions] Jacob's Ladder

The LD colours look a big improvement. What are trying to fix with the audio? The LPCM from the BD sounded pretty good when I compared it the the LD audio someone posted on here.

That LD was PAL, this is the NTSC one so I'm curious to compare them. The Blu-ray PCM may very well turn out to be decent, but it instantly annoyed me that it was out of sync on the Carolco logo and that's made me doubt the whole thing. If it's sonically superior to the NTSC LD then I might work my way through checking sync and adjusting it slightly if needed (I'll definitely fix the Carolco thing because it's really dumb, the logo appears and the audio doesn't start until it's already drawn a fairly sizeable chunk of the logo).

I think I'm going to have to grab the German BD (I only have the GB one which is significantly worse looking, but the German one is still pretty bad) and try to do something about the colours. But y'know. Priorities. I have been wanting to watch the film with my partner for ages though so I'm really annoyed that I'm finally getting round to it only to find that the disc is minging...

Fannying about with the geometry to see what I reckon subjectively looks about right, with the DVD and things like circular objects / text as ref. The main thing that looks like it *might* be slightly wrong here is the Carolco logo, so I wonder if the DVD / LD might have been slightly overstretched vertically and the Blu-ray makes the opposite mistake. The rest of it looks OK to me but there's a fair bit being cropped out here...

I could ignore the rest of the film and just try to correct the geometry of the Carolco logo based on references (that hopefully are not wrong themselves). But to be honest, when I tried this, I found that the geometry didn't look wholly consistent across the whole logo, so if I made the logo itself look about right the text would look too wide, or vice versa. So I think I'm just going to have to wing it.

this is an abomination. had no idea this film was treated so poorly on the blu. don't believe I've seen it since the old DVDs. would love to regrade this one properly using the laserdisc as reference.

I take it amazon.de has stopped shipping a bunch of stuff to the UK then?

Shows in stock, but as soon as I log in (with my UK shipping address set), says out of stock. Was hoping to more or less replace my UK Blu-ray with the German one since it's clearly a better encode of the transfer, though it's still a bit crap (squished, bland colours).

Look again: that's the UK one, hahah.

I'm talking about the German Mediabook that just came out.

EDIT: I guess it must've literally sold out as I was trying to buy it because it now shows out of stock even without me being logged in. Damn it. https://www.amazon.de/dp/B08QS6KW1G

Why not stick to the LD? All other versions appears compromised.

Dropouts, noise, resolution, aspect ratio (it's 4:3)... I'd like to attempt to fix the geometry and colour of the German BD.

They look really bad to me. I'd rather take a SD LD if the presentation is right, over a compromised Blu-ray with drab colors.
