Kino just announced High Plains Drifter on UHD.
Hopefully they include the mono mix in loosless this time, it's not like the room will be lacking.
It seems to be the first of the original era of Clint films to come out in UHD.

Anyone tried to sync High Plains Drifter original mono to latest 4K Kino? I only have PAL DVD mono at hand and I did 25>24 in MEGui but it goes all over the place during or after first whipping scene.

Yes, it's either in sync with the recent Blu-ray which has the same master, or works with an initial delay. I haven't checked out the difference yet, I'm awaiting for the disc.

Don't think we know yet if the mono is OG (as per Universal's DVD) or a downmix (as per the Kino blu).
Hopefully it's the former... but I tend to expect the worst these days.

It's probably the same track as before. I think anyway that the original mono was downmixed from stereo tracks.

HPD was never released in stereo anywhere.
I don't think it's been anything other than mono until the blu-ray.
What makes you think it was OG stereo?

I didn't say it was originaly stereo in theaters.
I said the stems might have been stereo before being folded down to mono for the prints.
That could explain why these stereo tracks of many Malpaso films appeared on Laserdiscs.
Studios back then, were all mixing stereo (the switch occured during the sixties), but they had gear when one push button would fold the multitracks down to mono for review. So I'm thinking, maybe those very reasonable mixes are probably taken from the stems, and that they just put out the stereo version out because that's how it was on the stems.

It seems that the score is stereo while the bulk is mono. Even SFX are in the center channel and stuff in the rears don't spread to a L/R direction. Stamper is probably correct in that the stereo is really the 3-channel D/M/E track. Criterion did this with the 3.0 quasi-stereo tracks on Valley of the Dolls and All That Jazz, and the 5.1 for Fast Times at Ridgemont High (each channel is discrete but almost no stereo direction like the old 5.1 remix).
