It's always possible to use the theatrical 5.1 and then upmix the 2.0 extended cut parts.

The credits still only show Dolby Stereo and I've never seen any 35mm images with anything other than a 2-channel optical track so I'm as yet unconvinced that there was ever a theatrical 5.1 mix for any version of this movie.

It also has a 2.0 track which I was interested in because the extended version never had a 5.1 track theatrically. Couldn't you possibly demux the disc using DGDemux?

According to ONE comment on film-tech, there were also SDDS prints, so multichannel.
Asked in another forum about this, I'll report here.

Early 90s they had a branding issue at Dolby with 5.1

Batman Returns had a 5.1 mix, Cliffhanger had a 5.1 mix for 70mm (stereo for 35mm), and The Fugitive only stereo, no 5.1. The Sony release of Leon (as The Professional) had two mixes -- Dolby Stereo and SDDS (I would assume most theatres showed this 8-channel mix downmixed to 6-channels?). I'm a bit unclear as to how SDDS translates to home video. The Buena Vista release (as Leon) had a 5.1 Dolby Stereo Digital (as it was then called) mix. Are Sony going to use the same 6-channel mix as Buena Vista or the downmixed SDDS or some kind of remix from the stereo, or...? That's the extent of my amateur knowledge.

In the (now defunct) SDDS website, The Professional was not listed at all... Do you mind to post a link to a review or interview that talked about its SDDS 8-channel mix?

I don't know of any review that's talked about it. These things are often overlooked. But you can see the SDDS logo on the US poster https://cdn.posteritati.com/posters/000/...md-web.jpg and it's on the film itself (theatrical cut). |
