Movie: Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Source: LD ID6851HB / Shout! BD
Input Soundtracks: 16-bit 44.1khz Mono; 24-bit 48khz Mono
Output Soundtrack: 16-bit 48khz 2.0 Mono (FLAC)
Ripped/Synced by: bronan/stwd4nder2
Synced To: Shout! BD

The Shout! BD contains a very good sounding version of the original mono, but there was a song removed because of copyright issues. bronan ripped/synced the LD, which contained the un-modified original mono, but the version on the BD sounds a lot better. So I volume-matched and inserted the 40-or-so seconds from the LD into the BD track to get the best of both.

YOu know that for DVD/BD digital surround, the LFE is increased by 10dB as part of proper bass management (BMS in AVRs) , then sent to the subwoofer, right?

I think if your AVR is arbitrarily increasing the LFE that much you have something misconfigured. And even if so I'm comparing the raw audio before being processed so this wouldn't make a difference.

The CDTS sync of Black Hawk Down is now available. Synced to the theatrical cut on the US UHD. Thanks to BDgeek for providing the files.

Available in three versions:

1) Theatrical LFE - LFE increased standard 6dB, which should be the theatrical level according to documentation on this site.
2) DVD LFE - LFE increased an extra 2.5 dB to match DVD levels.
3) UHD LFE - LFE increased an extra 10.5 dB to match UHD levels.

I find the theatrical to be kind of lacking. The DVD LFE levels help while still respecting original intent of the sound design. I honestly prefer the third version.

Tech Info
The raw AUD files were converted using the APT-X100 foobar2000 plugin, resampled to 48KHz, and slowed down to 23.976 FPS. Surround's have been lowered -3dB and LFE increased +6Db. Final encode is a BD compatible DTS-HD file, muxing to MKV requires an offset of -21ms. Because of seamless branching issues, for best sync I recommend ripping the disc with MakeMKV with no audio tracks selected then muxing the audio with mkvtoolnix.

Like Gladiator one day, could you try to patch the audio for the extended cut?

A 10dB factor is part of proper playback. See:

Also, Tarzan C DTS should sound p.close to any released DVD/BD, right?

No. The BD is 5.0. Theatrical DTS has an LFE channel.

Special thanks to Turisu for sending over the raw files.
Huge difference in dynamics compared to the DTS:X on the UHD. That track is overall pretty weak, this one could blow your subs. If anyone has the DTS discs for any other films in the franchise I'd love to get those synced as well.
