this 2.0 track is poor and not worth anyone's time.

the 5.1 track on this same disc sounds amazing though and is the best sounding track i've heard.

Yeah, I noticed the shift in AQ from the one mix to the other.

Good thing we have the Musical Score (although in a compressed AQ when compared to the 2004 Making of Documentary [the Instrumental Numbers/Unreleased Music Cues have better AQ than the LD's Musical Score]) This makes me want to request nicely the Walt Disney Records producer, Randy Thornton for a release of an actual complete score for the film...

Film Score (based on the "Composer's Original Score" in film's chronological order)
Original 1964 LP Version

I found the Bluray audio to be clean and generally sound good, but definitely filtered/processed when compared to the LD 2.0 track.  Flipping between the two, I preferred the LD 2.0 track.

i actually need to take a listen to these again. i dont think i actually gave this 2.0 track much of a listen and was thinking of another movie. iirc the blu-ray 2.0 mix has a bit of a weird EQ and the LD is an improvement and i think the older 023 AS 2.0 track was roughly the same if not worse. i do remember the ac3 mix sounding great though. i'll try and take a look at them again in the next couple days.

here's a comp between the 88 VHS and 9871 though:

Does anyone have the AC3 LD track? Would love to take a listen. One thing is for sure, the image on the Blu-ray is SUPERB!

Was Marry Poppins always stereo in theaters or did the stereo mix come from one of the theatrical re-releases?

The film has both mono and 4 track mag prints, but not many. The AC3 has mono surrounds so that’s a good sign it could have been sourced from the mag master. It does contain LFE so it’s been tinkered with a bit to get that but it’s nothing tasteless.

Hoping to sync it at some point just not sure when yet. Really looking forward to listening to it though.

Thanks for that info. So the 2.0 stereo track on the LD isn't really an original theatrical mix? The original mixes are mono and LRSC 4 tracks?
