[Help] Indiana Jones DVD Mixes

Hey all. I was hoping someone could clear up some questions I had about the Indiana Jones DVD sound mixes. I heard that the Raiders DVD uses the 70mm/VistaSonic mix. Is that true? Does that mean that Temple of Doom and Last Crudade use their 70mm mixes, or are they remixes?

Old thread, but it doesn't look like this ever got answered.

Short version is yes, and it's covered in izzybell's Dolby Stereo unfold thread rather than anywhere you'd think to look. He mentions in passing that the Indy DVD 5.1s are the 70mm six-tracks rather than new remixes, and posts a Temple of Doom example.

Worth reading the disagreement right after it though. Turisu pushed back on the spectrogram method, his point being that 70mm six-track is discrete to start with so what you're looking at isn't matrixing. He doesn't dispute that the DVDs are the six-track mixes though, so for your question the two of them actually land in the same place.

Last Crusade doesn't get named specifically in there, so I'd treat that one as less settled than the other two.

Separate thing if you go looking for the Raiders DVD track. commandrbond found the surrounds on it mastered about 3 dB hot, and thinks Temple and Crusade are fine.

One small thing I can add. I've got his Raiders DVD 5.1 and his LD 5.0 sitting side by side, both synced to the UHD and the same length. The LD one is a Shure HTS5300 decode of the disc's PCM 2.0, so there's no LFE in it at all, silent the whole runtime, where the DVD does carry a real one. Obvious enough once you know how the LD one was made, but it tripped me up for a second, so worth flagging if you're planning a mux around either.
