I cancelled this for the time being since the 4K UHD of Seven was just announced.
Addendum: Well the Seven UHD was not good and having doubts about Fight Club after seeing the UHD of Panic Room. So this project is back on.

Project Info:
Rewriting this intro: So I had originally started this project for different reasons but now the intent to provide alternatives to the UHDs that Fincher is producing.

Seven
Video:
This project will encompass two versions of Seven. Maybe a third.
1. Will be an 2160p upscale and 1000 nit HDR grade of the existing BD. Probably not as good as the UHD but hoping without all the faults of the UHD.
2. The second version uses the old Seven transfer as seen in the New Line DVD. The source is the Canadian open matte BD. I tend not to use open matte transfers for recreating OAR projects as they normally are cropped on the sides. In this case I found the Canadian transfer to have more info on the side than the DVD.
So I first IVTC's the BD's 1080i transfer into 1080p. I then cleaned-up compression, mitigated some EE and some other issues and then upscaled the project to 4K. I lined this upscaled video with the New Line DVD and roughly cropped the OM transfer to match the DVD's 2.39 transfer. Finally I synced this to the timing of the OAR US BD by adding one extra frame.
Since this master is very bright especially compared to the BD, I adjusted the black level and added some contrast to match the SE DVD. Not as much as the BD but hopefully more pleasing. The version will be 2160p/709/SDR.
3. The last possible version will be the above second version with a light scene-by-scene regrade to the laserdisc. The two masters (SE DVD and LD) are fairly close with the ending being the major differnce. See here:
