No, I mean Alien's optical stereo tracks were Dolby-A (NR) encoded, so do you use some Dolby processor like CP50 to decode them (or some other processors) or just listen to it in "raw" state?
Dematrixing (LCRS out of 2 channels) is different topic.

Oh, well I didn't scan the prints and the scan notes for Rob's don't mention any decoding so I assume raw

I don't know if the Director's Cut is of interest, but there was a D-Theater release which features the full dynamics of the Cinema DTS 5.1 track released in cinema 2003. There are slight differences in channel levels and high pass at the lower end, but the dynamic range is fully preserved. The BD and UHD BD are slightly compressed.
For the original cinema cut I didn't find any release with full dynamic range beside the DVD from the 20th Anniversary box so far... |
