Frankenstein (1931) Audio Preservation
#31
I was mostly referring to audio. Did you watch Leonardo's video? He took my comparisons, isolated the vhs audio and slowed it down to where it would sync, and applied careful noise reduction. Whether this is something we might want to do later on can be discussed, hence why I said we can do one of each, but from my own instinct, and from LilBrutto's suggestion, the first thing that should be done is sync the track as is. The audio is already captured. LilBrutto sent it to me and I intend to send it to you. First I would like to preserve the track that was featured on the BD since you mentioned you wanted a reference track and also this track has the missing line. The LD track we will use for the syncing however does not have the line, just like my VHS version doesnt have it and hence will have to be added back unless we wanna leave the track censored which I doubt most of you would want. Me personally, I'm actually more used to the censored version due to my repeated viewings of the film on VHS so I dont mind it that way but for the sake of this project it would probably be best to add the line back.

If you are talking audio, then I can do that when I do the syncing work. (possible make two versions: one that's just a "straight" sync and a second that would be filtered for noise)

Either way, whenever you guys have the audio track ready for me, just PM me the link(s) and I'll take it from there.

I really like this film but am not super privy to all the changes made in the audio. The missing line that you mentioned is dubbed over with a thunder crack, is that on the LD, the BD, or would it be VHS sourced?

Audio noise reduction. Having 2 versions (unfiltered and filtered) is what I'm suggesting. The line is missing (i.e. drown out by thunder) on the LD PCM track whereas the BD track has it so you can use that as the source.

I'll PM you the link for the LD audio now.

@ LilBrutto - Got the LD audio...

@ crissrudd4554 - if you already have the BD audio demuxed and ready, then PM me a link as I would have to rip it off the disc myself and since I'm in process of packing to move, I'm not sure where I have it... Thx

I'll get to working on it within the next day or two. As far as audio noise reduction is concerned, I see benefits to it, IF it is done right. Unfortunately, it usually isn't and I understand why from an audio perspective - sometimes ambiance is in a very similar frequency range as "noise" and separating the two can be a b*tch. I'll see what I can do with it hereWink

Little status update:

Ok, so I just finished syncing side 1 of the LD (which means I have the first ~34minutes synced) and I've had to make over 30 re-cuts to keep things in sync so far... It took me over FOUR HOURS just to get to this pointEyedrop

Of course, I'm keeping a very detailed changelog of everything and will post it all once I am finished. I am going to sleep right now, but will work on this during the day before the new episode of TWD airs. Hopefully, I'll have this done todayOk

Well, at least the syncing work... when it comes to cleaning the audio up, I got some ideas, but I won't run any tests until I have things synced first...
