Jaws sequels

I just capped the HD versions from Vudu and I'd like to sync the PCM/uncompressed tracks from the LD's. Does anyone have them?

Going by the LDDB, only Jaws 2 had a PCM track. You'd have to track down a Japanese LD for PCM on Revenge.

I'm confused. The US discs wouldn't have uncompressed sound?

It appears that way...

Jaws 2 - US Release - PCM Mono - http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/22984/41367/Jaws-2

Jaws 3 - JPN Release - Analog Mono - http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/33906/SF078-1096/Jaws-3 (ALL other editions have Analog Dolby Surround tracks)

Jaws 4 - JPN Release - PCM Dolby Surround - http://www.lddb.com/laserdisc/44954/SF07...he-Revenge

A quick google search yielded no results for a LD PCM track for Jaws 3... Sad

Analog LD audio with CX noise reduction can sound really good captured from an older player. (Like I have.) Later digital models actually suck in the analog sound dept.
If you track the discs down, I'd be happy to capture the analog sound ones for you.
Weird the Japanese LD was mono though.

I guess the question then is "what's the difference between PCM and Dolby surround? I thought Dolby surround was just derived from the stereo tracks anyway? I wasn't aware of differences.

there's two JPN editions of Jaws 3, both with Analog mono, and the other one is this one:
http://www.lddb.com/vhd/00809/VHP78142/Jaws-3

When it comes to difference between PCM and Dolby Surround...

A PCM track is lossless and can be mono, stereo, or stereo with Dolby surround encoding (where the center and rear channels are matrixed into the stereo track - for use with DPL)

However, Dolby Surround is just a way of matrixing surround information into a stereo track and not all Dolby Surround mixes were included in digital PCM on LDs. Some, like the non-JPN editions of Jaws 3 LDs, only had Analog Dolby Surround tracks, so they had the matrix surround encoded into the stereo track but it was lossy unlike PCM which is lossless.

Really interesting. I had no idea that PCM tracks weren't included on all discs. Dunno where I got that idea from. Thanks!! Smile
