LaserDiscs needed for replacing BD audio
The Pink Panther.

Shout BD has 5.1 remix, lossless 2.0 remix, and lossless mono. The latter is screechy, over loud and has much of the noise removed. The DVD mono is far better and has the natural noise, but the LD mono is even better.

Not sure if it belongs on this list, but related to my little search in the other thread: The DTS laserdisc of Armageddon (1998) is exorbitantly expensive (I saw one offer for $1000, although probably no one pays that) and rather rare. Supposedly the DTS audio is very good, and this is the only laserdisc of Armageddon with DTS. Might be worth preserving, if one happens to get one's hands on it for a reasonable price.

Does this apply to all of the Pink Panther movies or just the first one?

So far I've been able to fully compare all but Revenge as I don't have that LD. Each film save for Return sounds better on LD. Return is a port of a European bd and is fine. The others are dated masters and the bd mono is ok but not as good as the LD mono.

Strikes Again is a mess of a disc. Bad transfer and bad off pitch sound. I gave up and watched the LD instead. Also of note is that all the dvds are boosted in contrast.

Some have said there a slight audio mix difference on Revenge in comparing the LD to all later issues.

Son of the PP looks and sounds fine but I had forgotten just how bad it is.

I may have mentioned this but the BD of Fast Times at Ridgemont High does not have the original mono. The 5.1 mix has some added foley effects. The LD may be of use although I think the LD editions use a mix with replaced songs. I have the OOP High School Reunion DVD with mono audio which I believe is the correct original mono.

I have the Japanese LD, not sure if it has the replacement music, but it's analog only. The DVD might be the best option.

Finally got around to capturing the PILF-2647 LD of Hard Target today, but was only partially successful in converting the input wav to DTS. Made a post on OT with details of what went wrong: http://originaltrilogy.com/post/id/1143598

Ouch, sounds complicated this bit perfect capture game!

I'm pretty sure the mix is exactly the same as what's available on the bluray.
If it's the longer cut it may have a slight bass variation, with more being passed to the LFE channels from the main mix. I noticed this on the R2 to R1 DVD's. It's like the original mix is 5.0 and the .1 was created later with low level crossover much like they would have done on the fly in a DTS theatre Smile The longer cut was mixed more aggressively.

OK, well I'm pretty sure it's the theatrical cut since it's only 90-some minutes long, and if the DTS is the same mix as the BD, no big deal then. I can always send it to someone else if they'd like to give it a try.

BusterD,
Have you syccessfully captured laserdisc DTS before? I'm wondering if the side break is interfering with the parsing of the dtswav.
