LaserDiscs needed for replacing BD audio
https://youtu.be/w5PYOxumY0o
Watched the right stuff last night and I have to agree
Not as dynamic as it should be
LD probably sounds way better.

A bit flatter than the 4k
Plus u need to turn the volume up to max which I hate
Nice to have an alternate listen tho

A lot of early LDs were mastered at lower levels than more recent mixes. You can either add gain or normalize in audio editing software like audacity, just apply enough to keep the absolute highest peaks from clipping and you're sorted

Yeah I did that with the Kubrick dvd mono mixes. Didn't want to alter the holy laserdisc Audio tho
Kinos recent remaster of wanted dead or alive also has the same problem

It won't change anything except increase the level by a certain amount of dB, unless you start fiddling with compression/filtering. It's the equivalent of the volume control on your amplifier

Do we know whether the 2.0 track on the They Live UHD is a downmix? I agree that it sounds better than the LD. The LD is rather muffled but maybe that's the way it was originally.

Have to give it another listen but on the ld I think I heard less surround panning of the helis when nada is looking out the window.

*Edit
Got a dvd track and it sounds almost the same as the bluray audio and better than the ld

Cruising 1980 arrow bluray "MONO" track is actually a stereo mix down of the 5.1 with new sfx. .*Edit - HDTV version has original audio

Anyone plan on syncing Clockwork Orange's DVD mono to the 4k? The 4k does have it but it's been given a filtering treatment according to some who've listened.
