Looks good spoRv. I'll look at a clip.

Wish we could fix the font....

Yeah the fonts not 100% but i don't find it distracting. What i do find distracting is the horrible sd upscaling. I've been watching the series on BD from the beginning and can always tell when it's sd thrown in the mix. Some are ok most are crap.

First clip has too much artifacts, so I'm going to encode another version - a bit less similar to DVD, but should produce no artifacts - I hope so... still, some are present, due to different fade timing between DVD and BD but, ehi, this is just a test! Big Grin

I thought also to upscale the DVD opening (from 5th season, 16:9) to replace the BD's...

Just found this about DVD and BD aspect ratios, with comparisons:

Not sure if anybody's seen this site... Lots of great BD/DVD comparison screenshots for a handful of episodes as well as a "What's Wrong With The X-Files On Blu-ray" section.

They should have a list of upscaled shots used.

Did you know that X-Files on laserdisc is better than on DVD? Well, it's really noticeable on the Pilot episode:

as you can see, more details, more image on both sides, slightly different color grading, a bit of clipped whites. When cleaned, is much better of course!

I have checked only another episode, Deep Throat; there the difference is minimal, but laserdisc has always more image on the sides; probably mixing them could lead to a better picture.

Today in Italy, on Rai 4, it started... from the pilot episode... sadly, they use the BD master, but in SD, 10mbps bitrate (not bad), with logo and other writings; audio stereo, Italian MP3 192kbps and English 128kbps... useless - for restoration purposes, at least!
