MultiAVCHD - official thread

Here you can post your experience about MultiAVCHD, tips & tricks, whatever you think may think could be useful to use better this fantastic, free tool... and, of course, ask for help!

Something I learned about it:

  • if you see that you AC3 tracks are always re-encoded, even if they are perfectly compliant, just set "use eac3to" on, and set "Non-HD audio" to 640; this will prevent any AC3 track below that bitrate to be converted
  • when you set languages for audio and subtitles tracks, remember to use deu instead ger for German
and many other things that now I can't remember... but I'll post here whenever they come to my mind! Wink

Hello everyone, my name is Ben Roderick and I've always interested of fan preservations and restorations and reconstructions. It's something that an hardcore, analyzing fan would do because there's something that needs to be right like removing DNR and restoring or upscaling something you want by using AviSynth or something.
I'm proud of joining FanRes.com and I hope this will be a great forum website when a lot of people will discover and some people will get it interesting.

P.S. Are you allow to send Myspleen invites on forum posts or private messages?

IMPORTANT:

I have updated the forum script to the latest version; I tested with my PC and Android phone, and it works flawlessly, but at least another user has problems with thread view; I managed to solve it, but, as I have not that problem, I must know if it works...

Is your thread view like this:

or this:

I have the second situation, which is the best IMHO.

Waiting for feedbacks!

  Adding 35mm Film Grain
Posted by: NewNightmare - 2015-03-21, 01:41 AM - Forum: Official and unofficial releases - Replies (12)

I am new to this forum and to producing and preserving movies of all sorts (mainly horror). I am confident with my editing skills and ability to create a fully authored BD, however I have learned that there are ways to improve the quality of a movie file (in this case, the file is in an MKV/M2TS format) by simply adding 35mm film grain to the file. This is one area I am not an expert in nor familiar with. If there is anyone out there reading this now that would like to offer me some pointers and/or assistance, I welcome your input with open arms. Thanks for taking the time to read this Smile

Here is a link to an example of what I am trying to achieve:

http://gorillagrain.com/products

I would also be willing to send the file and the 35mm grain plate that I purchased to do this. I would also be willing to compensate you for your time. A bit of a trade, if you will. Please get back to me at your earliest convenience. Thank You

Record Laserdisc digital audio via spdif in
Posted by: Confederate - 2015-03-20, 04:55 PM - Forum: Capture and rip - Replies (15)

Hello !

This my first time posting here Smile

I have just acquired a new usb card with a spdif in which I want to use to capture digital audio streams ( PCM ) from Laserdisc in the future.

The soundcard I bought is the Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi HD:

http://www.soundblaster.com/products/Sou...Fi-HD.aspx

The good thing about the card is that as soon as I connected my Laserdisc's digital output to the soundcard's spdif input the "Creative
Audio Control Panel" immediately recognized that there was a 44.1 khz signal at the spdif input.

However when I tried recording the file using the software that came along with the card it recorded the PCM stream at 48 khz.
It sounds great in my opinion however I would prefer recording it at 44.1 khz.

Can anyone recommand a specific software for this purpose ?

Halloween 4/5 Ultra Stereo tracks from US LD's
Posted by: Jetrell Fo - 2015-03-19, 11:42 PM - Forum: Requests, proposals, help - Replies (4)

Does anyone have the US LD's of Halloween 4/5 that can capture, bit perfect, the Ultra Stereo from them? I posted this on OT as well in the Audio Preservation Thread.

Thanks

Big Grin

OK, it's not important as Google, but one billion Chinese people could find out our community quite easily... just search for "fan restoration" and we appear at the second place...

(if someone could think of searching "fan restoration" of course...)

When you buy a BD, DO NOT give away the DVD of the same title!
Posted by: spoRv - 2015-03-15, 10:27 PM - Forum: Official and unofficial releases - Replies (41)

Because, while the title is the same, probably it is different... sometimes:

  • DVD has different cut
  • DVD has different color grading
  • DVD has different aspect ratio
  • DVD has different sound mix
  • DVD has more audio and/or sub tracks
  • DVD has extras while BD has not, or less, or different
(it could be the same for HD-DVD, Laserdisc etc.)

Luckily I have retained all the DVD even when upgraded to BD, and very few times DVD had exactly the same content of the BD...
