Cinegy Cinescore - free benchmark for video production

Also, a "simple" i7-4770 (non K) at 9806 score is a huge improvement.. maybe you could but it from me, so I could upgrade to a 4790K without spending almost the cost of the PC! Big Grin

The increase for video processing specifically though is slim, that's why it isn't worth it. It'd be better to build a whole new system, one that isn't limited to only 6 SATA drives.

Should I go for something like this for GPU? Or should I spend more on just one card that's more powerful that I can SLI-up later on?

Following the fact most parts of Avisynth plugins are not multithreaded, I thought that I should rely onto single thread index - so, following those figures, the new PC would go about 4 times faster; indeed, as written before, the increase is actually 10 or 12 times, as stated in the CPU index - of course, the same applies to multithreading software like x264.

Now, I know you use Avisynth for sure, and probaly other video editing software; upgrading to the 4790K will increase your speed almost 2x (and even a "modest" 4770 non-k like mine would give you a +50% increase); it's not that bad at all IMHO - at least, you have to spend money only on CPU; if you have no budget limit, you can go and buy a new "fancy" CPU, but, reading many reviews about CPUs lately, it seems that many are a small improvement in comparison to the 4790K (when overclocked)...

Video cards: seems nice, still don't know how much they could be useful, video editing wise.

You want something with at *least* 6GB per card of memory if you intend doing 4K restoration work. 8GB is preferable.

For most programs now that support OpenCL the AMD cards are giving performance per dollar, but it is very program specific which cards perform best in any given situation.

I personally wouldn't bother with a 680 even if it was free. The Radeon 480 outperforms a pair of those for rendering in most packages, and for Nvidia I would consider the 1060 the basement level entry.

I have two hexacore Intel X99 chips sitting on the shelf, as well as a 12 core (24 thread) Xeon X99 chip, if you are looking to upgrade, then the X99/2011-3 is the way to go for Intel, the 40 lanes is very handy if you have output cards and high speed network cards and NVMe taking up lanes, and you can drop a 22 core Xeon chip in there in the future if the feeling takes you.

If I may ask, would you mind to let me know models and prices? Too curious... Big Grin

Yeah I'm aware the X99 would be ideal for video editing. I'd need to upgrade the motherboard though - and well, build a whole new PC actually since my current case could only fit about 7 maybe 8 SATA devices (including the two 5.25" bays). Although I guess I could double that by getting dual-stack 3.5" mounts for 2.5" drives. Anyway, I'm a long way from going down that route at the moment.

Can I post a help-needed on OT to raise funds for storage costs?

CPU: Intel i7 4770
GPU: EVGA GTX760

CPU 1391
GPU 515

Nice to see my PC wins in some tests Vs 6700K, while in others lose, but still close to it!

Why do I get nothing for GPU? It's a pretty recent one and not bad at all...

Only recent Nvidia GPUs work.

Yeah, I have a GTX 1050 ti. It's both recent and Nvidia Tongue

That's strange... but, have you a zero score on GPU? If not, be aware that just one test uses it.
