Discovered that "something" introduced a bit of pink in my BD screenshots - don't ask me what, still investigating... there is less pink than it seems indeed, don't know if the HDTV has less, let's wait for markymark's notes.
About Cinema DTS: this is quite different from the TruHD of the BD, and even with just TV speakers, it is immediately noticeable - at the contrary of other previously used Cinema DTS tracks, where difference - if any - was minimal...
I've focused on the briefing scene; on Cinema DTS, dialog seems "right", where on TruHD it seems emphatized; while thinner in comparison, I prefer Cinema DTS; also, in other shots, while dialogs seem equal, and the music too, when there is dialog over music, the TruHD put higher volume on music, leaving dialog quieter... well, it's nice to have both tracks - curious to hear LD PCM and/or AC3 track!

Looking forward to hearing it!
OK, so the HDTV release is pretty much identical to the Blu-ray, even down to the aspect ratio error and dirt. Definitely cut from the same cloth. Wherever there was the slightest hint of a pink tint before, there is often a slight green tint now that really sits on the blues and flesh tones. It's all personal preference of course, but I don't consider that to be an improvement or closer to the DVD.

Here's another comparison between the BD and the HDTV:

And a 3 way comparison between the BD, HDTV and PAL DVD

Whenever my NTSC DVD arrives I'll put together comparisons of all 4.

Mystery solved - HDTV seems to use the same master of the BD (and of the SE DVDs), apart very minor differences in frame size and slight green tint; so, I think we could consider it useless for the project.
Happy to see you used diff.pics - it's a very nice tool for screenshot comparisons, in particular when more than two sources should be compared, and it allows also image downloads... I think I'll use it more often from now on.
Give it a shot at UK non-SE DVD (THANKS markymark!!! ) and colors are really nice and alive... don't know if US non-SE DVD would be better, we'll see!

First test, quick'n'dirt: https://diff.pics/TUFHh9GjNBbY/1
colors are quite nice - yeah, Weir is a bit too green in the corridor, but maybe Neo has taken him into the Matrix!
Aspect ratio seems right to me.
It's still out of sync of one frame, more or less, yet a good result for a first test.

Hey hey hey! This is shaping up rather well
Aspect ratio seems spot on. It works out somewhere between 2.46-2.47.

...and BD is quite too much cropped (or zoomed in, as you like more) in outer space shots:

I'm almost tempted to use DVD for those...

Yeah it's a pretty drastic shift isn't it? No idea what the thought process was behind that.
I'm happy enough either way. The outer space shots are fleeting enough that it doesn't hurt the movie for me personally.
I think the image quality is better in the NTSC DVD overall so it may be worth using that for that those moments. Could end up looking rather nice with good upscaling and a new grain plate.

Who knows, maybe it's different from NTSC LD (or next formats); may you make some comparison with the DVDs?
