The itunes 4k looks great!

Thanks to CSchmidlapp's post, I've discovered that the fullscreen VHD has a bigger frame than DVD (and a different color grading, too):
of course, quality is low (VHD resolution was around 250TVL, after all) and it has Japanese burnt-in subs, but *maybe* laserdisc has the same frame size, and US version would have not subs, so... Thanks given by: CSchmidlapp
Anyone would happen to have the original 2008 US Blu-ray Mpeg2 release? I'm looking for just the sound, the english 4.0 and the french 2.0.
They are missing from the european disc so I would like to remux. Thanks if anyone can help

The English Dolby 4.0 is also on the UHE equivalent released in France. But no French Dolby 2.0, alas. In fact, even the French dts 5.1 on both French Blu-rays share the same affliction as the helicopters in both opening and closing scenes are oddly muted. The French dts 5.1 track from the French DVD is better for that. But no 2.0 either. Thanks given by: Stamper

Oh I have the UHE too, does the 4.0 remuxes with the old one without resync?
I wanted to get the version on p__ repack just for the synced soundtracks but they've been offline for three years.

Yes, both 2008 and 2010 Blu-rays are in sync with each other. No initial delay required.

Now I would just need the french audio from the US early Blu-ray to have the perfect remuxAnd remember, for the French 5.1, my advice is to take the dts track from the collector DVD edition, encode it to 23.976 fps and sync it to the BD. I don't remember the initial delay but I do remember a 1-frame difference during the film (might be a reel change), so a half-frame delay (21 ms) on the whole movie (half too soon, half too late) goes unnoticed. I have done that, encoding it into FLAC using eac3to GUI, but I'm not sure it does the pitch correction automatically and the GUI does not present the option. If you have a better way to do so, I'd be glad to know about it. It's reminding me that I must rework the subtitles. I have a recording of the originals to do a better job than the crappy ones on the DVD/BD.

According to this comment on the p___ repack blog the french DTS 5.1 is probably similar to the lossless one as they both have changed creature voice somewhere.
I see there were two R1 DVD editions of note, the first is a port of the LD (widescreen non anamorphic), then it was replaced with the DTS version. Both seems to have the french original Dolby Surround mix too. I think the spleen 4/3 upload is unique because it's not listed on DVD compare (includes the spanish mono as well as the french original DS mix)

Thanks, let me know. I did some archeology on the russian site, and found what looks like the first DVD release (widescreen but non anamorphic).
It was slow and took days. The disc had originaly english 5.1 & 2.0 plus french 2.0 I expected the ripper to have deleted the english 2.0 and replaced it with the russian, but bingo! He did the reverse: he deleted the 5.1 and kept the 2.0 possibly for space. So now I have DVD versions of the original mix in 2.0 in both french and english at 192kbps. The old US blu ray french audio 2.0 is at 224kbps but I'm not sure if it's better. I think it might be just a port of the 192kbps upscaled. I think it might be a different bitrate because they might have upped the volume (on the initial DVD it's a bit quiet compared to the english 2.0) and then re-encoded at superior bitrate. Nonetheless would like to compare. In the meantime I will check if I can repack without re-encoding those two soundtracks to the old Blu-ray. EDIT: Unless i'm mistaken, no other 2.0 foreign language mix of Predator exists on DVD. If your german or spanish or italian, and have some knowledge of a local 2.0 original mix, PM me so that I can add and resync to the old release. Thus we will get an ultimate Predator original mixes collection on the organ. |
