[No Longer Available]Aliens SE, TV and Theatrical Cut (Japanese WOWOW HDTV Broadcast)
#61
Is there such a thing as a comparison between this "TV" cut and the other 2 versions? I can just find SE vs theatrical comparisons on movie censorship etc. I went through and did a detailed one for Airplane! a couple of nights ago because I couldn't see one for that either.

Not sure if there is a list somewhere. Here is a simple list from my other Aliens thread:

-has Ripley's daughter scene (Her 11th birthday)
-no extra conference room lines (...its the view of this inquest...)
-no colony scenes (has the TC dissolve from the inquest to Ripley's apartment)
-missing Burke's extra lines (...saw the commercial)
-has Ripley's TC line about going to work
-no cat/Jonesy goodbye (for TV Censorship)
-no extra establishing scene in the Sulaco
-no "yours was male" discussion at the meal (for TV Censorship)
-no extra Hudson lines (...knives, sharp sticks...)
-no extra Hudson motion tracker scene (Good one, Hudson)
-no scene outside with Ripley, Burke and Gorman entering the colony (Are you alright?)
-does have the robot sentry intro (But the good news..., without they really kick ass line)
-does have the discussion about the planning the barricades (..we put the other sentry here..)
-does have the scene of setting up the robot sentry guns (Fire in the hole)
-does have the scene of the guns scanning the hallways
-does have Ripley and Newt discussing Ripley's daughter (She's dead)
-no bee hives comparison lines (...bees, man...)
-does have first sentry attack scene (..its a shooting gallery..)
-does have the second sentry attack scene (maybe we got them demoralized)
-no Ripley lines about "...each other over for a..." (for TV Censorship)
-has the correct placement of the guns (pulse rifle first, then flame thrower)
-has the Ellen/Dwayne exchange

On TV broadcast all the language was dubbed over with at least 2 or 3 shots cut totally out for language (cat, meal and for a percentage scenes). My TV cut follows the complete seamless branching shots from the BD, so its the above with none of the TV censorship. I re-created the TV from the BD and then cut the WOWOW to sync.

In which case, I think your "TV version" (without the censorship) is probably my definitive cut of this film, as far as what I know exists already. I never was keen on the colony stuff, specifically, but I like some of the other extra scenes (mostly the smaller character moments like the daughter thing and the Dwayne/Ellen bit).

Yeah, the TV cut is a nice compromise between the TC and the SE. You get the extra action with the sentry guns and a bit of added dialog, but without the colony stuff and Hudson's goofiness.

I can't remember that Hudson scene that clearly but as a huge fan of Near Dark (and a less huge fan of Weird Science but a fan nonetheless) I'll usually err on the side of more Paxton so I expect I probably didn't hate that scene the last time I watched the SE. But I usually watch the theatrical version off the Blu-ray Disc, since I feel the SE drags too much (the colony bit is just tiresome imo).

Seems nice! Still, I don't get where the disc must be put in... Big Grin  can you post more pics and/or a video? Very curious...
