Have you checked the actual data with a hex editor of your choice? Maybe one can narrow things down by verifying whether the data is completely different, has gaps or the least significant bit gets altered due to dithering. Changes like "FD" to "FE" or "AB" to "AA" between the original and the S/PDIF capture would be a suspicious indication for the latter.

I'm pretty sure Professional mode is only used on digital out, so not much to worry about. Are you guys using the latest drivers from ESI for the U24 XL?

Trying to get this sorted now that I've got my PC back. Burned and verified the trst CD in ImgBurn and it plays fine through my LD player via optical into my AVR.
When I connect it via my U24 into Reaper it seems to just record the block of noise (judging by the waveform). When I render it out it's the same and when I run it through DTS Parser it creates a 0kb file, so clearly something is going wrong.
Could it be something with the way I've got Reaper set up? I've followed the instructions for the ESI interface but I'm wondering if there's something else i could have missed?

It should just look like a block of noise, so that's fine. Can you share the .wav you exported from reaper? I can check it out and try to run DTS Parser on my end just to rule that out of the equation.

When you say render out what does that mean? I've only ever worked with the saved capture obtained when stopping recording (I usually rename it at the same time otherwise you get a date/time named file). Once it's saved I clear the timeline and carry on
