BitPerfect: PCM Bit-Perfect Tester

Have you checked the actual data with a hex editor of your choice? Maybe one can narrow things down by verifying whether the data is completely different, has gaps or the least significant bit gets altered due to dithering. Changes like "FD" to "FE" or "AB" to "AA" between the original and the S/PDIF capture would be a suspicious indication for the latter.

It doesn't even show a progress bar and spits out a virtually tiny dts file that doesn't do anything. Trying to rerun parser on the original file just gives me an error in French I think.

Maybe obvious, but did you check Rebuild Stream and selected DTS WAV from the drop down when you select the WAV file?

If you want, could send me the capture and I'll send you one to run through DTSParser on your side just to rule that out 100%.

Not sure if it matters, but Professional might not be the right setting (IIRC, my DTS capture worked fine when set Consumer), as retail LDs probably wouldn't use the extra bit or whatever that Professional SPIDF contains.

Couldn't find much definitive info in a quick search other than some old forum posts regarding M-audio devices:
https://community.klipsch.com/index.php?...-settings/
https://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic....6&t=850577

But is there a specific reason why you recommend Professional, Pipefan?

On another note, I've been having a minor problem with my u24 in that it will randomly stop working (and nothing responds in the Control Panel), sometimes in the middle of a capture. Have to unplug and re-plug to get it working again. Hasn't happened too often, but just twice in the past week, but I don't think it happened at all in the first 2 months or so I had it. I hope it hasn't started breaking down or dropping frames or anything...

Not too big a deal

Because I know it works and because...

Interesting because mine also sometimes shits itself when I press record, REAPER locks up and doesn't get any input. Never happened once with my other sound card that does bit perfect and seems to have no rhyme or reason to when it happens with my U24 XL. Bloody irritating.

I'm pretty sure Professional mode is only used on digital out, so not much to worry about. Are you guys using the latest drivers from ESI for the U24 XL?

Hmm, something similar happens sometimes on my end, if I press record and the player hasn't finished spinning up and outputting a signal yet. It doesn't lock up the program, but I use Sound Forge (already had a license for it and have tested it as bit-perfect so didn't feel a need to purchase Reaper).

Yep, v2.8.

Trying to get this sorted now that I've got my PC back. Burned and verified the trst CD in ImgBurn and it plays fine through my LD player via optical into my AVR.

When I connect it via my U24 into Reaper it seems to just record the block of noise (judging by the waveform). When I render it out it's the same and when I run it through DTS Parser it creates a 0kb file, so clearly something is going wrong.

Could it be something with the way I've got Reaper set up? I've followed the instructions for the ESI interface but I'm wondering if there's something else i could have missed?

It should just look like a block of noise, so that's fine. Can you share the .wav you exported from reaper? I can check it out and try to run DTS Parser on my end just to rule that out of the equation.

When you say render out what does that mean? I've only ever worked with the saved capture obtained when stopping recording (I usually rename it at the same time otherwise you get a date/time named file). Once it's saved I clear the timeline and carry on
