This has been done for over a month and about a half dozen people were nice enough to test it out for me. Pretty much everyone found it good but one person was nice enough to point out 3 or 4 shots with banding. It appears the banding is baked into both HDTVs and even a little bit in the BD. 8-bit what can you say? So I'm running some de-banding and dithering on it but I don't expect it to be perfect but hopefully better.

When that is done, I'll release this to participating forum members.

While searching for projects similar to this, I came across a potential new source for this project. It is described as a 4K AI upscale of an open matte source and is a little over 70gb. I haven't checked it out yet because I do not own a 4K release, but I can point someone in the right direction if they are interested.

I haven't posted in this thread in a while because:

1. It was attracting random people
2. I have been re-doing this project

So the initial project was the upscaled HDTV proved by X5, which has much better compression then the Russian one. That then had the BD/UHD overlaided for 90% of the movie. I was happy with that final overlay version until I thought to try a few things ended up with, what I think, is a much better version. I wanted to release it before NTTD but it will still be a few weeks.

Regarding this clearer image/more detailed, i would suspect Topaz AI, but perhaps it´s also possible in avisynth.

There is a ton of upscaling of the top and bottom but the overlaying of the BD and sometimes the UHD does most of the heavy lifting.

In fact, AutoOverlay AviSynth did everything a long time ago, and by QoS 2008 everything was done too
