Yes sadly, the BD has some sharpened parts that look totally artifical.
The only good thing about it is I now can compile a playlist akin to ALIENS TV cut. In the notes of the LD, JC talks about a "braver" cut where the TC would incorporate the wave. So I'm compiling this cut and will post the playlist later. Of course I'll call it the "Braver cut".

Anyone know if the 2.0 track for The Abyss (which appears to be the least egregious of the AI remasters) is original or a new mix/downmix?

Someone asked the question over at the BD forums and apparently JC likes to include a 2.0 mix on his releases and a screen grab from the Avatar disc was shown to illustrate this. So the assumption is that its the Atmos mix folded down however, will still be worth checking out when it arrived.

Yeah, I saw that post. I fear the worst is true, but I had hoped that because The Abyss already has a natural 2.0 mix (it was on the DVD, as I recall) they might have just used that, rather than some new buggery audio mix.

Apparently, still from the same forum, the 2.0 is the LD audio track, maxed out to hell with some EQ adjustments and Noise Reduction.

The Terminator 4K UHD has been announced and due in August. Supposedly, Warner is behind it. It'll be interesting to see how they mess this up

It'll be interesting to see how they mess this up I don't think there will be any surprise there. It will be the same AI degrained nonsense that the existing Cameron UHDs are! Unfortunately! |
