Yes I just saw Dr. No, the BDs now are good only for some of the bonuses not reconducted. They basically fixed all the problems, and went back close to the colors I did on my THX DVDs project (which can now be retired), only better as they used the negative vs my use of 4K rips from Lowry. I'm thinking now probably the good thing will be to just resync the DVD mono tracks (with the french and spanish dubs) to the UHD. I'm on a binge watch of the set this week-end.

Goldfigner looks dark in the rip I saw but the grain looks more authentic, no original logos is a shame.
Didn't they go back to the negs? Why bother then?

Why? The English original audio isn't good? Or did you mean you will sync only the dubs?
(Although I can't think of a reason anyone would like to watch English speaking films dubbed in other languages. Especially classic films as these)

It's exactly for those classic films that us foreigners like the dubbed version, because back in the day, before the digital era, we didn't really have the choice and could only see the dubbed version of movies, so we have a soft spot for these old dubs.

Fortunately we didn't dub foreign films here. I've watched everything with subtitles in my language.

Dr No, Criterion Mono is still the best based on analysis by Framestor, UHD is missing top end.

YOLT UHD mono betters even the MGM SE dvd based on analysis by Cinephiles.
Supposedly color timing can be a bit erratic at times shot to shot based on comments over at the Blu forum.

Personally still prefer the aspect ratio of Goldfinger to be 1.66:1 (more frame on all sides) even though the 1.75:1 on new transfer is the intended ratio.

1.75:1 of FRWL on the other hand has extra frame on sides to make up for loss on top and bottom of 1.66:1 ratio.

I haven't got to GF yet, I watched FRWL and though it's a little less colored than Dr No, I think it's exactly what was on the o-neg conformed to print colors.

Yes I meant the foreign dubs, as those aren't available in mono on the UHD discs (they apparently just included the past 5.1 remixes which I loathe). We foreigners have a soft spot for these dubs.

I tested Dr. No and FRWL Atmos and thought in some instances, you can feel some nice direction of sound, it basically sounds hollow compared to the much better mono mixes. I think syncing the best sounding LD or DVD mixes + foreign mono dubs is a no brainer.

Looking back on the Lowry of the first two in comparison the Lowry are just awful and processed. They are unwatchable as far as I am concerned now that we have those.

I didn't know they changed the ratio, that's a shame
