Hard Target Japanese Laserdisc
#11
Not sure yet. I'll look into that possibility.

Like I said, the LD is not a perfect color reference. This shot looks downright terrible.

Nice results with the LD color matching, pink skies from that other shot no withstanding.

Lots of dated Universal transfers of 1990s films look pretty awful color-wise, usually with too much yellow and magenta. Also, EE, causing noise rather than grain.

Army of Darkness is a good example of this: http://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?d1=6715&d2=6709&c=2734 (Director's Cut closely mimics the 35mm print that I've seen.)

Unfortunately, Universal's catalogue titles get notoriously shoddy treatment on Blu-ray. Hard Target is certainly not the worst of Universal's transfers, but it's pretty mediocre overall. And I don't see a remaster happening any time soon.

From what I remember having access at the time to the NTSC and Pal LD's, the uncut version had some inconsistent colour based around theatrical footage vs uncut footage, seemed like two different colour timings going on.

LD audio for Hard Target was always pretty good in the LFE

I'd be curious to hear how the PAL LD soundtrack compares to the Japanese LD soundtrack. I'm also curious about how the video transfer looks, although I suspect it's the same one as on the old PAL non-anamorphic DVD.
