[In progress] Event Horizon BD fix
#41
You could always Michael Bay it...

Joking aside, I don't actually mind the BD colours. The problem for me is how flat the midtones and highlights can be; it makes the slight to moderate undersaturation (depending on the scene) even more noticeable. It's awfully dim and anaemic looking next to both the PAL and NTSC DVDs.

But as people have said, maybe that's "correct".

Here you are the same shot from the BD:

and from the deleted scene:

Cusious to see the one from non-SE DVD...

I'm finishing up on the comparison now; but it's very similar to the NTSC DVD...

Heads-up: there is (was?) a 1080i HDTV version floating around... *IF* it uses the old master - the same of non-SE DVD and LD - *AND IF* it could be found, *MAYBE* it's possible to use it to get back the missing lines on the bottom... it would be a PITA (not the Greek dish!) to make it, but at least it *should* have a better video quality than DVD...

Good shout. I've found (currently downloading) a 720p HDTV release from CtrlHD. Possibly from the 1080i source.

OK, here you are two fast comparisons:

BD Vs HDTV 720p - http://screenshotcomparison.com/comparison/212770
framing is a bit larger on BD, and it's more pink than TV

BD Vs HDTV 720p Vs EU SE DVD - https://diff.pics/zvXMEr9tWrw7/1
framing is even a bit smaller than HDTV on top in the DVD, but skin tones are better (?), indeed quite different...

HDTV images are taken from the web, BD from MPC-BE, DVD from MPC-HC

The plot thickens...

No pink tint in the HDTV cap, that's nice.

A comparison between the PAL UK non-SE DVD and the BD with the correct aspect ratio.

A comparison between the NTSC non-SE DVD and the PAL non-SE DVD.

And yes, the image quality really is that bad in the PAL release, despite the extra resolution!
