Thanks for the link!

Arrow is definitely too blue for my tastes... FC 3.0 seems mandatory now! Happy

Comparisons are up on caps-a-holic:

At first glance, the Shout! release appears to have more detail than the Arrow. But the more I look the more I think it's just over-sharpening. There are tell-tale edge halos visible in some shots.

EDIT: On closer inspection, this is not just sharpening. It seems the Shout! release has detail that the Arrow does not:

The Arrow looks more film like IMHO. Got it here to watch (actually purchased the limited edition)

Will pick up the Shout Factory Edition to compare at some point (and have the better bonus features)

I agree that the colours on the Arrow release are much better. But if we're talking about a source for FC v3 then it would appear Shout! has more detail. There is definitely some sharpening involved but look here:

The letters ABS are better resolved and more legible on the Shout! release.

I saw these pics yesterday and agree with Turisu. I know the Shout is sharpened, perhaps over-sharpened, but there is something odd about Arrow scan in comparison. Maybe the film is just soft looking?

Did either Shout or Arrow say what scanning equipment they used?

Also you can compare the Arrow to the Universal one:

So maybe a V3 is not even needed. I'm more than happy with V2, so I don't see the point to use Arrow as a source, resolution wise, where Shout seems better - apart, maybe, bigger framing?

Comparing the Arrow release to the old HD-DVD, there is definitely finer grain on display and less sharpening but really not much more in the way of detail to my eyes. A big disappointment. FC v2 is certainly the definitive version.

But, spoRv, do you think that the Arrow has better colours in some scenes? For example; the shot with Mac holding the lantern. In the Arrow shot, the lantern has a warm orange glow whereas in FC v2 it has a bright white light which does not look nearly as natural. Based on the trailer scans it does seem that the night scenes were quite brown like the Arrow colours and not as blue as FC v2. But obviously we still need white snow. Smile

Looking at those caps, The Arrow has a more natural look than the Shout, both with it's lack of sharpening and its colors, which look quite good.
The Shout had a purplish tint to some of the redder scenes, but they are back to red in the Arrow.

The Arrow also looks like it doesn't have a blanket dirt pass, so that ping pong ball is finally back! (It also has all the sparks in image 16, unlike all the others.)

Very happy with this, probably time to finally upgrade my HD-DVD.
