Anyone interested in all the cut music?

Stumbled across the fact that an awful lot of music was left out.... Anyone care to try and figure out where some of it might go?

Would be very intriging i think.

Basically also i think this does look very good great work

I think some of it might go to The Hateful Eight, right? Wink

Perhaps but I think that might be without the synthesizers so the unused score with the synth added to morricones orchestral cues is for the thing.

I don't recall loads of sythesizers like john carpenter music in the hateful eight... Do you?

Yes I do! Tongue

Maybe because I added that "special track" to this project, where unused tracks present in the OST were used, and some of them are present in the Hateful Eight - and I think they are "out of place" in a western movie (in particular the track that plays during the snow storm), but this is just my opinion, of course.

Actually, I was mainly aiming for the joke.

So you did an isolated score track?

I will be honest the hateful eight garnered my interest more in the soundtrack but when i actually listened to it there seemed to be loads of music i never heard before....

Nope, I just added some tracks present in the OST and not in the movie, as background music where none where present. Not a bad version at the end, considering that was my first attemp to something like that, but you can consider it like a novelty; still, interesting to listen if you want to ear Morricone's music playing during the film.

That must be quite interesting.

Did you discover any new actual cues?

I assume some would play over some of the cut shots and material but without hearing it i will say good effort because i would do something like that too Wink

Basically it would be great to discover some music cues that is what i am saying.

You know, sometimes I think I'm too harsh judging the work of the various studios, regarding color grading... then, I recall what they wrote about a title in particular - of course, we are talking about "The Thing" here, but I'm sure there are many others - where each studio claims that "the director of photography supervised this edition blah blah blah"...

From Shout website (https://www.shoutfactory.com/product/the...ct_id=4720)
Quote:NEW 2K Scan Of The Interpositive Supervised And Approved By Director Of Photography Dean Cundey
- "The Thing (Collector Edition)" released on 2016-10-11 -

From Arrow website (https://arrowfilms.com/product-detail/th...ay/FCD1616)
Quote:Brand new restoration from a 4K scan of the original negative, supervised and approved by director John Carpenter and director of photography Dean Cundey
- "The Thing (Remastered) (Limited Edition)" released on 2017-10-23 -

I wonder:
  • if both were supervised by the DOP, why they look so different? He has completely lost his mind/vision ability in just one year?
  • maybe John Carpenter pushed for a different grading, and Dean Cundey was simply "forced" to accept his decisions?
  • why a 4K ON scan is softer than 2K IP scan? Someone argued that Shout used EE, but, even if this is true, Arrow is way too soft for a 4K scan, in particular taking in account that the 2K scan is from an IP, that has a lower detail... maybe it's only due to different scanning devices/methods?
  • why Arrow grading is often better than Shout, where the former is from ON and the latter from IP? Should't be the contrary?
  • why the DVD (using a 25 years old master, if not older) retains more image on both sides in comparison to any other HD versions?
  • at the end, why a non-supervised edition (like the first BD and HD-DVD, without talking about LD and DVD, of course) has an overall better color grading (IMHO, but many agree) than both the previously cited ones?
