The Matrix - regraded, v2.0
What are you basing this on? Screen caps? Pictures people have taken of their TV? Or watching the UHD on your own display?

All of the above. The images posted online are pretty much what I'm seeing on my TV in terms of the difference between the UHD and new BD.

Although it does seem that the new BD is a mixed bag. While I feel the interrogation scene looks a lot better on the BD (neutral colours with very little green), the woman-in-the-red-dress scene looks awful (massively raised blacks and highlights way overblown) compared to the UHD which looks great.

I see. Well, considering that we do not have decent reference for what the theatrical presentation looked like, I'd say it's safe to side with Bill Pope's judgement in this regard.

Also worth noting that any images of the UHD seen online are either HDR->SDR conversions, or have gamut mismatch, making the colors appear more saturated than they really are. Plus, even if you are viewing the UHD on a UHD screen, it might not be a very accurate display (few consumer displays can encompass 95% or more of P3).

Exactly, Pope has a grasp of what things look like for the age of the movie.
It was never consistent shot to shot and he knew that.

The blob was on all early releases according to someone on BR forum. Interestingly, someone posted a Joel Silver interview made 10 days after the US release of the film. In it, Silver says the color schemes, green inside the Matrix, and blue outside, are subtle and impossible to notice on first viewing. It looks to me the new release might be very close to what it originally was.

@everyone who are involved (you know who you are): please, calm down, and follow the guidelines of good behaviour... thanks!

About "right" colors: after the last two subsequent releases of "The Thing", which were "approved by the DoP" - released at just one year after the other, and with very noticeable difference in color grading - I would not trust a DoP so much... my two cents, of course.

TBH I resent my conduct being viewed as equally "bad behaved" given that I wasn't the one making bigoted statements (the likes of which I've noticed before from that specific individual).

Per the thing: as I understand it, one transfer was 2k from an IP, the other was 4K from the OCN (and the latter was supervised by the director and DoP... which means the director gets the final say).

In any case, I'd say there is a big difference between a small outfit doing a transfer and having the creative stopping by for an approval vs a big studio with a well funded/good track record restoration department bringing in the DoP* to supervise an OCN transfer & HDR grade.

*The W's were asked by Warner's to supervise the transfer, but they let Pope have first dibs if he wanted.
