So I was reading on another forum, it appears the 4K T2 is actually just a blow up of the 2K scan.

There is however lots of differences in framing between the regular Blu and the so called 4K Blu.

Would it be possible, using the regular Blu, and a convert of the 4K to BD (there are a few floating around) to produce a complete UAR version?

I would love to see this and I can provide the files.

Assuming that's true, it would likely be possible, but imo an unreasonably large amount of work for relatively little gain. I say this because you would need to first regrade one of the sources shot by shot, likely the remaster to the Lionsgate (because of blown highlights in the Lionsgate) for the AutoOverlay plugin to even work reasonably well, aside from the overlaying itself and regraining the remaster. And this regrade would have to be probably done with DrDre's ColorMatch tool. spoRv's ColorMatch is good, but not good enough for a good looking UAR I think. So you would have to take screenshots of each single shot, align them in Photoshop, use DrDre's tool, pray, apply the LUT to that shot, then run AutoOverlay. Many days or weeks of work for a little extra gain in image.

Nope both remasters have the same colors. I'm talking the 4K restoration in 2K vs the 4K restoration in 4K.

(or rather the 2K sold as 4K restoration in 2K vs the 2K restoration upscaled in 4K).

Combining both should be a breeze with only minor work on adjusting colors. This would give a definitive base remaster upon which you can work on (for example doing the Squeeze LD colors etc.)

Stamper, send me some frames from both, and I'll make some tests.

Oh I see. Yes that would be more possible I think. I misunderstood because you posted screenshot comparisons between the remastered Blu Ray and the 2015 release.

T2 UHD vs UAR 2.32:1

Nice spoRv!

I think the difference in framing evolves from shot to shot between the UHD and the Blu-ray RM.

Probably if both are combined, you get as shown an about 2.32:1 version varying from shot to shot.

I think it would be a nice base for future regrades like the Squeeze LD color regrade.

I also see a cool uptick in sharpness with both combined.

Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973)

What editions are available?

Theatrical (106 min.)
2005 Special Edition (115 min.)
1988 Turner Preview Version (122 min.)
Production of Sam Peckinpah’s Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid was plagued with problems that boil down to studio interference due to the directors alcoholism. Today, it is quite clear that this film had the possibility to be Peckinpah’s ultimate masterpiece.

When principal photography wrapped Peckinpah was 21 days behind schedule and went over budget by a $1.6 million on the production. Soon after he delivered his cut of the film and it tested poorly, the film was taken from him and re-edited by the studio.

In 2006 Warner Bros released a two disc special edition DVD which included a new cut of the film dubbed 2005 Special Edition that combined the theatrical cut, the preview version and a couple of new scenes that had never been shown before. The DVD also included the 1988 Turner Preview Version. The theatrical version was released on VHS but hasn’t been seen since then.

I think it could be cool if we somehow managed a VHS rip. The Theatrical is completely gone, but should be preserved for historical reasons.

Once we have a VHS for reference, maybe recutting the Blu-ray to the VHS might be easy.

I've long wanted to work on Garrett but the materials we have are kinda limiting. The preview cut is the only real version we have but is from the only print source and is actually seemingly using the Laserdisc master. There's inherent damage but the color is natural. The 2005 dvd cut purports to be in Peckinpah's intentions and has an additional scene from the theatrical cut in the preview cut-and one that is debated everywhere if it supposed to be in the preview cut or not. But the edit is not so good and the color timing has been drastically changed in addition to the transfer being softer and more processed.

Indeed the theatrical cut would only primarily be on a pan n scan old VHS tape copy. I've never found one but would like to see all the differences for curiosity's sake. I've been hoping Warner Archive would tackle this though it would likely only be a 1080p upgrade of both DVD discs.
